About the Event

Lakota 75 is a one-day homecoming designed to reconnect generations of staff and friends who created the magic of camp. The afternoon begins on-site at camp with tours, tailgating, and time to revisit the landmarks that hold decades of memories. 

This is not a formal conference or structured program. It is simply a chance to come back, reconnect, and celebrate 75 years of Lakota together.

In the evening, a group of alumni have setup an event off-site at the Elks Lodge in Defiance for happy hour, dinner, and live music. Thanks to this group for hosting us for the evening.

Staff Tailgate & Tours

The afternoon at camp is open and relaxed. Walk around, visit favorite spots, and take part in guided tours that highlight both what has changed and what has stayed the same.

There will be tailgate style areas, lawn games, and displays capturing decades of Lakota history. Whether you were here in the 1950s or last summer, this is your time to revisit the place that brought us all together.

After Party Happy Hour & Feast - Elks Lodge, Defiance

In the evening, folks are invited to the Elks for happy hour followed by dinner and live music. This optional portion of the celebration brings everyone together in one space to eat, laugh, and celebrate 75 years of Lakota.

Overnight Accommodations

If you would like to extend the experience, you are welcome to stay overnight at camp or book a nearby hotel. The choice is entirely up to you.

On-site options include platform tents, Adirondacks, and RV camping. For those who prefer more traditional lodging, we are working to secure hotel room blocks in the Defiance area.

Whether you stay at camp or head into town for the night, we are grateful you are making the trip to celebrate 75 years of Lakota with us.

Saturday, July 11, 2026

11 AMGate Opens

This period of time allows people to setup their activities, walk camp, or prepare their campsite. Check-In and Programming does not start until 1 PM.

1 PMCheck-In Opens

Your homecoming begins here. You will be met at the gate and directed to park in the old pool/shower house field. If you are spending the night at camp, you will be directed to your campsite to setup.

Participants will take the trail past the chapel, across Volunteers Crossing to Check-In next to the health lodge. Check in, grab your name badge, and reconnect right away. We’ll have music playing, familiar faces greeting you, and plenty of time to ease back into camp life before the festivities begin.

1 PMLakotafest Tailgate

Meecheway is the hub of activity for the afternoon. Activities include: Food Trucks, Lakota History, Carnival Games, Crafts, Dutch Oven Cooking, Live Bands, and MORE!

The Armstrong Shuttle Service will be available throughout the day to take all participants to further reaching areas of camp. Wander, reminisce, snap photos, and reconnect with the places that helped shape your Lakota story.

5 PMClosing Ceremony

We'll end the afternoon programming with a flag ceremony, camp songs, a few speeches from dignitaries, and awards.

6 PMHappy Hour at the Elks Lodge, Defiance

Everyone is welcome to head to the nearby Elks Lodge for a relaxed Happy Hour. No scouting uniforms are allowed at the Elks. Alcohol will be available for purchase.

7 PMDinner at the Elks Lodge, Defiance

For those that have pre-purchased a ticket, enjoy a BBQ dinner followed by live music to keep the energy going. Expect great food, drinks, and plenty of time to mingle and reconnect with friends old and new as we celebrate 75 years of Lakota. Stay as long as you’d like. Rides will be available back to camp from the Elks Lodge for those spending the night at camp. The night is yours.

OvernightFamily Camp

For those who have pre-registered for Adirondack, tent, and RV camping, we'll be staying at sites on the Armstrong side of camp where parking will be available. The Armstrong shower house will be available throughout the weekend.

8 AMBreakfast at Boat Docks

Wake up to one more Lakota sunrise. Coffee and pastries will be available at the Boat Docks. Take another stroll through camp before departing by Noon so Lakota can welcome the next generation of scouts. (Cub Scout Camp!)

Help Out

Lakota was never built by one generation. It was built by all of us. If you want to help make the 75th unforgettable, there are three meaningful ways to jump in. If Lakota shaped your life, this is your chance to shape Lakota 75.

First, help us reconnect the community. If you’re in touch with former staff or friends of Lakota who may not be on our radar, every lead helps us bring another piece of Lakota history home.

Second, gather your crew and run a Lakotafest tailgate station. Pick a theme. Create a game. Host a challenge. Teach a camp song. Set up something that represents your era at Lakota. Bring your energy, your stories, and your spirit. The afternoon is meant to feel alive—and that only happens if you help make it happen.

Third, consider supporting Lakota 75 with a contribution. Your gift helps offset event costs, preserve Lakota’s legacy, and strengthen the future of camp. There are three easy ways to give:

FAQ's

Who's invited? All friends of Lakota are welcome to attend.

Is this a Scouting an event? It is, but you do not need to be currently active with Scouting to attend. The afternoon activities and tours will be held at Lakota while the optional evening activities will be held at the Elks Lodge near camp.

How many people are you expecting? Are families coming? Yes! The event is family-friendly, and you’re welcome to come solo too. We’re expecting hundreds of attendees. All friends of Lakota are welcome.

Is there a dress code? No. Wear whatever you’re comfortable in.  For the Elks Lodge After Party please refrain from wearing any Scout Uniform as alcohol will be available.

Are people actually staying overnight? Yes. Guests may stay overnight at camp in platform tents, Adirondacks, or RV spots. Others are booking hotels in the Defiance area. The choice is entirely up to you.

Bringing more than one person? Enter your information, click save guest, and you will be prompted to enter additional guests.  Children under 10 attending the Dinner at the Elks will be discounted by 50% automatically.
